Both during my workday and in the evening, after finishing work, I use reading (physical books!) to unwind, disconnect and relax. I find the shift of focus and attention from my computer and devices to a real physical book, using my hands to turn the pages, serves to reset my energy and focus. What is on my bedside table just now, read on to find out! >>>>

  • Portugal Lonely Planet - as an avid traveller I usually have a travel book nearby to dip into! I like to read about the general history of a country, specific regions and find places and activities of interest to bookmark. The symbols and abbreviations are useful for finding places with vegetarian food and wifi access.

  • Breath, the New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor - I am a big fan of Mr. James Nestor, with this book and his previous work on Freediving, Deep, holding strong and secure places on my bookshelves. This book on how we breath, is a revelation, a book I wish I could give EVERYONE as a gift. "You will never breath the same again" is so true and why I reach for this book regularly.

  • Mind on Fire, by Arnold Thomas Fanning - "A memoir of Madness and Recovery" an extraordinary memoir about #depression and #mentalillness and recovery. Gripping and harrowing at times, it is an intense account of madness and recovery.

  • Poetry #mayaangelou - her seminal collection of "Poems" is a constant when I want some rhythm and poetic words to weave through my tired brain. Her poem "Phenomenal Woman" is a constant support and inspiration.

  • Rewire your mind, by Dr. Shauna Shapiro - I love to practice, read and explore new ways and writing about #mindfulness but this is by far my favourite go-to book. Shauna's simple yet effective model of Attention - Intention - Attitude in the approach to the practice is so accessible but also profound. As she says, "What you practice grows stronger"

  • With the end in mind, how to live and die well, by Dr. Kathryn Mannix - really changes how you see the world and live. Asking the important question "What if everything you knew about death was wrong?", using poignant stories of death and grief by a palliative care doctor, Dr. Kathryn Mannix.

Fiction and autobiographies are also important in my reading collection, but for those titles I usually source copies via secondhand booksellers and swopping with friends. More importantly, building a habit of regular reading to relax and reset is important to me in my daily routine and in particular during the evening time.
